Ideogram 4.0 shipped June 3, 2026 as a 9.3B-parameter diffusion transformer, and its defining skill is still in-image typography. Marketers and designers hire Ideogram for posters, logos, book covers, and ads because the letters read as letters. The web app adds a canvas editor (inpaint, outpaint, remix), Magic Prompt, Character consistency, and CSV batch generation. The Ideogram 4.0 model page lists Turbo at $0.03, Default at $0.06, and Quality at $0.10 per image, with outputs up to 2K (2048x2048).

Ideogram's free tier is 10 slow credits per week (public images, slow queue), after cuts from 25 a day, then 10 a day, with the last cut in January 2025. eesel.ai recorded users labeling that slide "ideoSCAM." Monthly priority credits expire at the end of each billing cycle with no rollover, which punishes irregular months. A Trustpilot reviewer wrote they were charged $30 instead of the $10 top-up they selected. Reference-image generation was moved onto priority credits overnight; paying users called it a bait-and-switch. Ideogram's charge rule for a failed or ugly render is not published.

Elyum prices 1 credit at $0.01. The pricing page lists Free (up to 150 credits once (our algorithm may grant them), no card), Plus at $9/mo, Pro at $29/mo, and Ultra at $69/mo. Every render comes back as a free preview (a take). You KEEP the ones you want (that is the only moment credits move) or KILL the rest for an automatic full refund. A failed generation is never charged. Free accounts get one kill a month; paid plans kill freely. Pro and Ultra include fair-use unlimited image generation on selected image models. Kept takes download full quality, no watermark, commercial use included.

Skip this page if your job is Ideogram-grade type inside that canvas, plus Team seats and CSV batch. Elyum has no timeline editor, no stock footage, no avatars, no mobile app, no team seats, and no community feed.

Why people switch from Ideogram

  • Pay only for takes you keep

Ideogram's charge rule for a failed or ugly render is not published. On Elyum a failed generation is never charged, and a kill on a paid plan refunds in full.

  • Monthly Ideogram credits expire

Ideogram priority credits expire at the end of each billing cycle with no rollover, per multiple third-party pricing writeups. Top-up packs are reported not to expire. Elyum only moves credits when you KEEP a take, so a discarded preview does not burn a prepaid month.

  • A free tier that is not 10 a week

Ideogram's free allowance is 10 slow credits per week after cuts from 25/day then 10/day (January 2025). Images on that tier are public. Elyum Free is up to 150 credits once (our algorithm may grant them), no card, with one kill a month.

  • 50+ models on one credit balance

Ideogram does not offer Seedance, Wan, Kling, Veo, FLUX, Gemini image models, or GPT Image. It runs its own line. Elyum puts 50+ video, image, and audio models on one balance; start from the models catalog.

  • MCP for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor

Ideogram's developer API is billed per image ($0.03 / $0.06 / $0.10 on 4.0) and does not require a generation subscription. Elyum's same credit balance is available from the MCP docs.

  • List prices already about 20% under

Elyum list prices run about 20% under comparable Higgsfield, OpenArt, and Runway anchors. The cut is already in the listed price, not a coupon you have to remember.

Where Ideogram still wins

  • In-image type is still Ideogram's job

Best-in-class text rendering inside generated images is Ideogram's defining edge: logos, posters, book covers, social creative, ads. Elyum does not claim to replace Ideogram 4.0 at that specific task.

  • Canvas, Magic Prompt, CSV batch

Ideogram's web app inpaints, outpaints, and remixes on a canvas, expands short prompts with Magic Prompt, locks Character consistency, and batch-generates from CSV. Several competitors, including Midjourney, lack that CSV path. Elyum is a multi-model studio, not that editor.

  • Open-weight 4.0 and Team seats

Ideogram 4.0 publishes inference code under Apache 2.0; weights are a non-commercial research license unless you buy a commercial self-host license. Team is billed per seat (about $20/mo yearly, 1,500 priority credits per user). Elyum has no team seats and no Ideogram self-host.

  • Support that people actually praise

Reviews repeatedly call Ideogram support fast on billing and account issues. One Trustpilot reviewer said support resolved a billing problem quickly after the initial confusion. That is a reason to stay if your finance thread is already open there.

What it actually costs

Ideogram Plus is $15/mo on yearly billing (1,000 priority credits, private gens, ~8 concurrent, PNG export). Pro is $42/mo yearly (3,500 priority, batch, ~32 concurrent). Team is $20/user/mo yearly (1,500 priority credits per user, central billing). Monthly list prices for those three were not confirmable on Ideogram's official pricing page (403/404 during research) and third parties disagree ($15-$20, $40-$60, $20-$30/user). Enterprise is custom. API access does not need a generation subscription: Ideogram 4.0 is $0.03 Turbo, $0.06 Default, $0.10 Quality per image. Monthly priority credits expire with no rollover; top-up packs are reported not to expire.

Elyum is simpler cash: Free up to 150 credits once (our algorithm may grant them), Plus $9/mo, Pro $29/mo, Ultra $69/mo, and optional top-ups. 1 credit equals $0.01. Pro and Ultra include fair-use unlimited image generation on selected image models. List prices run about 20% under Higgsfield, OpenArt, and Runway anchors. We charge only on KEEP; a kill on Plus, Pro, or Ultra refunds in full. Free is limited to one kill a month.

Worked still: Ideogram 4.0 Default is $0.06 per API image and Quality is $0.10, both up to 2K. A 2K keep on the Nano Banana 2 page costs 4.5 credits ($0.04). Kill it and the credits come back. Ideogram charges that API price whether you like the frame or not (refund policy not published).

Moving from Ideogram

  1. Download the Ideogram images you still own. Paid tiers are reported watermark-free; free-tier watermark is not settled. Ideogram has no video export because it is not a video tool.
  2. Create an Elyum Free account. You get up to 150 credits once (our algorithm may grant them) and you do not need a card. One kill a month on Free; Plus starts at $9/mo if you need unlimited kills.
  3. Do not look for Ideogram 4.0 on Elyum. It is not hosted. Open the Nano Banana Pro page for stills, then generate a free preview.
  4. Judge the preview. KEEP the take (credits charge then, clean download, commercial use) or KILL it (full refund on paid). Failed gens are never charged.
  5. If you already call Ideogram's API, send Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor through the API docs. MCP is supported on those same agents. Same Elyum credit balance.

Yes. Keep Ideogram for typography and the canvas editor. Use Elyum when you want keep/kill pricing, video models, or agents. The alternatives index lists other studio switches. Neither product requires exclusivity.
How many free Ideogram credits do I get?
10 slow credits per week as of the January 2025 cut, down from 10/day and 25/day before that. Free Ideogram images are public. Concurrent free jobs are reported as 1. Watermark on that tier is not independently confirmed. Elyum Free is up to 150 credits once (our algorithm may grant them).

Can I self-host Ideogram 4.0 and still use Elyum?
