Runway is an AI-native creative suite for generating and editing video and images. It runs on Gen-4.5 and Aleph, plus licensed third-party models (Kling, Veo, Seedance, Nano Banana, GPT Image, Grok Imagine, Wan). Founded in 2018 by Cristóbal Valenzuela, Anastasis Germanidis and Alejandro Matamala-Ortiz, it is based in New York. A February 2026 General Atlantic-led round put the company at a $5.3B valuation (about $860M raised). Gen-4.5 has ranked at or near the top of independent video-model leaderboards, reported ahead of Veo 3 and Sora 2 Pro on Video Arena. Aleph edits existing footage in context, not only text-to-video. Paid tiers add brand kits, custom voice clones, HDR/ProRes export, and a public developer API.

The search usually starts after a bill, not a missing model. Runway's pricing page lists Standard at $15/mo for 625 credits, Pro at $35/mo for 2,250, and Max at $95/mo for 9,500. A 5-second Gen-4.5 clip costs 60 credits (~$0.60 at the Standard blended rate). Credits reset each cycle on Standard and Pro. A Trustpilot reviewer wrote that a $15 plan buys about 10 short (5s) renders, with no rollover. Credit refunds are automatic only on a hard generation error, not on off-prompt output.

Elyum is one studio and one credit balance across 50+ models, including Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Wan 3.0 and the image models. 1 credit equals $0.01. Plans: Free (up to 150 credits once (our algorithm may grant them), no card), Plus $9/mo, Pro $29/mo, Ultra $69/mo; credits can be topped up. Every render returns as a free preview. You KEEP the takes you want (the only moment credits are charged) or KILL the rest for a full refund. Failed generations are never charged. Paid plans kill freely. Free allows one kill a month. Kept takes download clean, no watermark, commercial use included. Current plan amounts are on pricing.

Skip Elyum if your work depends on Runway's own models or production suite. There is no Gen-4.5, no Aleph, no Act-Two, no brand kits, no HDR/ProRes/image-sequence export, and no team seats. Elyum also has no timeline editor, stock footage, talking-head avatars, mobile app, or community feed. If those are the job, stay on Runway.

Why people switch from Runway

  • Pay only for takes you KEEP

Runway returns credits only when a generation ends in a hard error. A completed clip that ignores the prompt still spends the allowance. On Elyum every render is a free preview; KILL refunds the take in full, automatically.

  • Lower entry than Runway Standard

Runway Standard is $15/mo for 625 credits that reset each cycle. Elyum Plus is $9/mo, Pro is $29/mo, and Ultra is $69/mo, with 1 credit at $0.01 and optional top-ups. Free is up to 150 credits once (our algorithm may grant them), no card.

  • Same third-party models, one balance

Runway already bundles Seedance, Wan, Veo, Kling, Nano Banana, GPT Image 2 and Grok Imagine next to Gen-4.5. Elyum carries that same third-party set in one studio (the models list) and does not sell Gen-4.5 or Aleph.

  • Listed rates already cut about 20%

Elyum prices run about 20% under comparable platforms (Higgsfield, OpenArt, Runway anchors). The cut is already in the listed price. A 5s Seedance 2.5 take at 480p is 40 credits ($0.40) if you KEEP it.

  • No watermark on kept takes

Runway's pricing page lists no watermarks on Standard and above. Free-tier watermark status is not published. Kept Elyum takes download full quality with no watermark, and commercial use is included.

  • Fair-use unlimited images on paid

Pro ($29/mo) and Ultra ($69/mo) include fair-use unlimited image generation on selected image models. Nano Banana 2 sits on the Ultra unlimited set. Runway still bills Nano Banana at 4 credits per image from the monthly pool.

Where Runway still wins

  • Gen-4.5 and Aleph stay on Runway

Gen-4.5 has ranked ahead of Veo 3 and Sora 2 Pro on Video Arena in third-party coverage. Aleph is in-context video editing on existing footage. Elyum does not offer either model.

  • Production export and brand kits

Runway Pro and Max add brand kits, custom voice clones, and (on Max) HDR/ProRes/image sequences plus 100GB or 500GB storage. Elyum has no brand kits, no first-party voice clones, and no HDR/ProRes pipeline.

  • Workspace extras Elyum does not ship

Paid Runway tiers include an agentic collaborator, 5 to 20 parallel generations, and up to 3, 5 or 10 projects. Elyum has no team seats, no mobile app, no timeline editor, and no community feed.

  • Act-Two and Runway-only tools

Act-Two (performance and lip-sync), Muse Image, Magnific upscalers, Ruby SDR-to-HDR, and Seed Audio live on Runway. If those are in the daily stack, a studio switch does not replace them.

What it actually costs

Runway's pricing page lists four consumer rungs. Free: 125 one-time credits, 5GB storage, limited models. Standard: $15/mo or $12/mo yearly, 625 credits, all AI video and image models, 5 parallel generations, no watermarks, 4K upscaling, 20GB, up to 3 projects. Pro: $35/mo or $28/mo yearly, 2,250 credits, 15 parallel, 5 projects, 1 brand kit, 1 voice clone, Runway MCP, unlimited 4K upscaling, 100GB. Top-up blocks start at 1,000 credits and do not expire. Cents per credit is not published. The old $97 Unlimited plan is closed to new subscribers.

Elyum plans are Free (up to 150 credits once (our algorithm may grant them)), Plus $9/mo, Pro $29/mo and Ultra $69/mo, at 1 credit = $0.01, plus top-ups. Pro and Ultra include fair-use unlimited images on selected models. Worked example: KEEP a 5s Seedance 2.5 take at 480p and you pay 40 credits ($0.40). KILL it and the refund is automatic. Runway offers Seedance 2.5 (up to 1080p) inside the same credit pool as Gen-4.5; its Seedance per-second rate is not published here. Line-level rates for that model are on the Runway vs Elyum Seedance 2.5 page.

Moving from Runway

  1. Download finished clips and brand-kit files from Runway before you cancel. Storage is 5GB on Free, 20GB on Standard, 100GB on Pro and 500GB on Max.
  2. Sign up on Elyum Free (up to 150 credits once (our algorithm may grant them), no card). Open the same third-party model you used on Runway from the models catalog (Seedance, Kling, Veo, Wan, Nano Banana, GPT Image).
  3. Run a preview. Judge it. KEEP the take to pay the listed rate, or KILL it for a full refund. Free allows one kill a month; paid plans kill freely.
  4. If you used Runway's API or MCP, send new jobs through Elyum's MCP or the REST API. Keep Runway's API if Gen-4.5 or Aleph stay in the pipeline.
  5. Stay on a Runway plan if you still need Gen-4.5, Aleph, Act-Two, brand kits or HDR/ProRes. Run both for a billing cycle, then cut the seat you are not using.

Frequently asked questions

Is Elyum cheaper than Runway?
At the entry rung, yes: Plus is $9/mo against Runway Standard at $15/mo ($12/mo yearly). 1 Elyum credit is $0.01; Runway does not publish cents per credit. A kept 5s Seedance 2.5 clip at 480p is 40 credits ($0.40). Stay on Runway if the $15 (or $35/$95) seat is really buying Gen-4.5 and Aleph, which Elyum does not sell.
Does Elyum have the same models as Runway?
On the shared third-party list, yes: Seedance 2.5 and 2.0, Wan 3.0, Gemini Omni Flash, Nano Banana 2 and Pro, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Grok Imagine 1.5, Seedream 5 Pro, MiniMax H3, and GPT Image 2. Runway also sells Gen-4.5, Aleph 2.0, Act-Two and other first-party tools. FLUX 2 Pro on Runway is not published.
What happens to a bad render on Elyum vs Runway?
Runway auto-refunds only a hard generation error. A finished clip that is off-prompt still spends credits; Trustpilot reviewers repeat that complaint. Elyum never charges a failed generation. KILL a completed take you do not want and the refund is full and automatic (one kill a month on Free; paid plans kill freely).
Can I use Runway and Elyum together?
Yes. Keep Runway for Gen-4.5, Aleph, Act-Two, brand kits and HDR/ProRes. Use Elyum when you want free previews and keep/kill billing on the shared third-party models. Developers can leave Runway's API in place and add Elyum's API or MCP next to it.
Does Elyum include Runway's Gen-4.5 model?
No. Gen-4.5, Gen-4, Gen-4 Turbo, Aleph 2.0 and Act-Two stay on Runway. Elyum is the keep/kill studio for the licensed names both products already sell, not a clone of Runway's first-party tools.
Does Runway still sell an unlimited plan?
Not to new subscribers. The former $97/mo Unlimited plan was discontinued and replaced by Max at $95/mo ($76/mo yearly) for 9,500 credits with one-month rollover. 2026 third-party reviews say existing Unlimited subscribers may be grandfathered. Elyum has no unlimited video tier.
Do paid Elyum downloads have a watermark?
No. Kept takes download clean and full quality, with no watermark and commercial use included. Runway lists no watermarks on Standard and above. Free-tier watermark status on Runway is not published.
